PLD with Sheena Cameron and Louise Dempsey The Writing Book

PLD with Sheena Cameron and Louise Dempsey The Writing Book

Yesterday I spent the today with 214 colleagues learning alongside Sheena Cameron and Louise Dempsey.

WOW! This day reignited my knowledge about the importance of working alongside passionate people. These woman are passionate about writing while still understanding the demands of a classroom teacher.

Each day teachers:

  • work with students of different ages and abilities
  • prepare lessons and teaching materials
  • assess student progress
  • liaise with non-teaching staff such as teacher aides
  • engage with parents
  • work with colleagues and in professional teams
  • are involved in extra curricula activities and
  • continue their professional development
The books Sheena and Louise have created support all of the - The Writing Book, The Oral Language Book, Teaching Reading Comprehension Strategies, The Reading Activity Handbook and The Publishing and Display Handbook.

Inspirational, I can't wait to work with Janene on implementing more of Sheena Cameron's and Louise Dempsey's ideas into Karearea 12 and support the Middle school on developing their knowledge further in their classrooms also.

Tips For Autism

The dinosaur I use to tell my teacher that I am hurt.
The dinosaur I use to tell my teacher that I need help.
I attended a Tips for Autism course this week and it was awesome! I have always found learning new things exciting and even more some when you are being supported by people who are passionate and driven by what their are sharing. Thank you to Dean and Brigitte for all your enthusiasm.

During the three days of this course the team focused on one child (total luxury). The team consisted of the specific child's parent, mum and dad, the child's RTLB and myself.
We worked alongside each other to find out anything about this amazing child.
What his ASD looks like, what his special interests were and how we all could implement success for him.

I learnt so much over the 3 days that I will be able to share in my role as SENCO. The strategies and tools that support ASD children also support many of our children with differentiated needs, especially around communication and sensory issues.

I am going to create a powerpoint to share with staff. This powerpoint will outline some traits of sensory issues and some of the ways we can support our children.
I will also put more time into supporting teachers through observing children in their classes.
I have also managed to get some TA time to help make resources for our children.

Love learning!
